Hamburger Helper used to be a regular favorite of ours, but we stopped buying it a long time ago in favor of making our own. Here is one of our many unique ground beef and pasta combinations. Enjoy the photos and recipe!

Cheesy Beef Helper Tandoori with Bacon (as pictured above)

1 lb ground beef

4 slices bacon

1/2 onion, diced

1 cup cheddar cheese, grated

2 cloves garlic, chopped

pinch of coriander seeds

1 tsp garam masala

2 tblsp tandoori powder

1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tblsp soy sauce

pinch ginger powder

two pinches sea salt

pinch thyme

black pepper

2 cups dried macaroni pasta

1/2 cup egg noodles

optional: 1 one cup bechamel sauce or 1┬ácan Campbell’s cream (of your choice) soup to make the dish creamier.

In a large saucepan cook the bacon until well browned. Remove from pan to drain excess fat, chop into bits, and reserve for garnish. Increase heat to high and add coriander seeds… they should sizzle and maybe pop a bit. Add ground beef, season with pepper, and stir until crumbled. Add garam masala and stir until beef is half cooked. Add onion, tandoori powder, and ginger powder, and continue to cook beef until starting to brown. Add thyme, Worcestershire, and soy sauce. Add pasta and enough water to cover by about one inch. Bring to a boil and continue boiling on medium heat while stirring frequently until pasta is cooked and liquid is almost entirely gone. Garnish individual servings with bacon bits and cheddar cheese, or stir cream of mushroom soup, cheese, and bacon bits into the dish and serve. Enjoy!
